Redesign, as it pertains to staging, involves working with the items you already have and maybe suggesting items to purchase to achieve a more finished look that will appeal to the majority of buyers. The term redesign can also refer to redesigning a space that you plan on continuing to live in, but in this article, we are focusing on using redesign to help your home sell. In this article, we are going to go into more detail on how you can prep your home for the redesign process and what you can expect when you hire us to come into your home to help you with this.
As mentioned in the previous blog, redesign is best for those who feel they already have a pretty good handle on their decor or simply are unable to move all of their belongings out for listing photos. No matter the scenario, it is important that you are willing to take the advice of the designer. They are there to help you sell your home based on their knowledge and experience.
If redesign is the path you are taking, here is what you can expect:
- Our designer will walk through your home with you and give a thorough assessment of your entire property, inside and out. They will give suggestions on which furniture and decor to add, move, or rearrange. They may suggest that you paint your walls a different color. They may even give you suggestions on changes to make to the exterior such as fixing a driveway or cleaning up a front porch. At Systematic Home Staging, this is known as our “Walk and Talk” service.
- After the initial consultation, the designer will send a recap email listing all details discussed during the walk and talk that was completed. It is expected that the client follows through with any suggestions made. This will always include cleaning and decluttering. Buyers do not want to see a messy home so it is very important that you clean and minimize your decor.
- Depersonalize your home. You, the seller, may adore your gallery wall of family photos but having such personal items around does not help buyers envision themselves living there. It is best to keep only general decor and art, the kind that can appeal to the majority of buyers.
- Get all extra furnishings out and/or rearranged according to the plan the designer gave you. This can also include furniture that is brought in by our staging team so make sure your space is cleared out and ready to accommodate that.
By following these steps, you are really helping potential buyers imagine themselves in the home, hopefully resulting in multiple offers.
